About The Artist

Hi, I'm Misty Smith. I am an artist and writer living in Texas. Ten years ago I bought a book and learned to draw (thanks Mark Kistler). I love the emotional storytelling aspect of graphite drawings and the marvelous complexity of watercolor. I had one art "class" which was only a few group drawing lessons in someone's kitchen. I have taught myself through books and videos. We live in amazing times with rich resources.

Pencil drawings and watercolor are both easy to stop and start which pair well with my unusual lifestyle. (I have life threatening health challenges that affect my daily life.)

No matter the setbacks, I purposely choose joy - not because life is easy - but because a life of gratitude is more fun than complaining. On days of paralysis, I simply draw, paint, or edit artwork in between paralysis episodes and flares. On stronger days, I live life full throttle. Each day is a gift! I enjoy my family, glamping, being outside, taking care of animals, hiking, friends, yard work, gardening, and to be busy in general. 

I am saved from everything I have ever done wrong only by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ. I have been married over 3 decades and love working side by side in our creative endeavors. If you have held a card or art print in your hands, it is because my husband's work in engineering and production of our print shop. He's the entrepreneur who put me into Amazon and Walmart's warehouses. I am blessed to be a mom, a wife, a Texan from birth, an American, a life-long autodidact. I'm sassy, playful, a novice hiker, and a lover of chocolate and Quarter horses - especially you, Velvet.
