About The Artist

Misty Smith is an artist and writer living in Central Texas. In 2016 she bought a book and learned to draw (thanks Mark Kistler). Misty loves the emotional storytelling aspect of graphite drawings and the marvelous complexity of watercolor.

Pencil drawings and watercolor are both easy to stop and start which pair well with her unusual lifestyle. Misty has a rare form of a genetic neuromuscular disorder called Periodic Paralysis. Periodically she is paralyzed, sometimes multiple times per day, and is unable to move or speak and has trouble breathing. After the paralysis episode ends, her strength returns, and she resumes normal activities.

No matter the circumstance, Misty chooses a joyful disposition and on days of paralysis, she simply draws and paints in between paralysis episodes. On paralysis-free days, you will find Misty living life full-throttle. Misty is saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ. She is sassy, playful, a novice hiker, and a lover of chocolate and Quarter horses - especially chocolate Quarter horses.
